  • KM Mentoring

This year (2026), I am participating in the KM Mentoring Program. The program is is a collaboration between the KM4Dev and SIKM Leaders communities.

I have 2 mentees. One is based in Peru and the other in the US (Iowa) so timings are interesting. We have met a couple of times each so far.

And despite being from different backgrounds, the things we are talking about are very similar for both mentees.

Career clarity in KM: Map 2–3 viable career paths within Knowledge Management and identify the skills, certifications, and experiences needed to pursue my preferred direction, especially in a global and AI-influenced context.

Practical KM tools and frameworks: Gain working knowledge of 3–4 KM tools or methodologies that drive organizational impact today — including AI-enabled practices — and understand how to apply them effectively.

Strategies for building KM culture: Develop a toolkit of evidence-based strategies to address resistance to change and foster knowledge-sharing within organizations, drawing on lessons from KM program transformations.

So far we have chatted about:

    • The International Standard for KM Systems – ISO30401:2018
    • Interesting resources
    • Communities of Practice
    • Governance of KM
    • Gamification
    • Rewards & Recognition, and of course,
    • AI

So it’s time I started collating some of this content and thoughts and add them to this site.

    See: What is Knowledge Management?

  • Private idaho – B52’s

random tracks that I recall from the way back machine.

This one was triggered by a post on Insta.

This track was released in 1978 on an album called Wild Planet which did not have Rock Lobster on it! It was a fab album.

  • Snippets – YouTube, crocs, & musical memories

a quick YouTube watch at my sisters house – she found one of those youtubers who buy stuff for fun – this time it was crocs. Now I own a couple of pairs of crocs but this was crazy LOL

    some of my crocs

on the way to my sisters I was listening to past playlists from https://kissfm.com.au/ (dance music station/channel) on Mixcloud when an episode called Electronique radio started. Damn, this was my jam!

Hosted by Mark Dynamix (a DJ who was loads of Ministry of Sound tracks), it was all about New Wave and Synth Pop – the 80s man. The episode I heard included Depeche Mode, The Cure, Falco (Rock Me Amadeus) and a Nina Hagen track.

It took me back to the times I would hang out at Central Station Records in Melbourne, flicking through the vinyl, and listening to what the store DJs were playing.

It also reminded of my love of ambient and trance music, of listening to a show called “Of Ambience and Atmosphere” on 3RRR which I recorded on cassette at the time, and discovered bands like “My Friend the Chocolate Cake”, Brian Eno and Robert Fripp.

As if reading my mind, YouTube then prompted me to watch a video of 2 bass players breaking down John Taylor’s bassline from Rio (one of my favourite bands and songs)

this was followed by a video of Joh Taylor breaking down his own bassline. Gosh I was having some awesome musical memory moments yesterday!

    Enjoy.

  • KMGN – late night learning

I register for a few webinars that are not in Australian time zones. The reason being I might not attend but I’d still like to hear about the topic and registering can offer you a link to a recording.

Over the last few years the KM Global Network (KMGN) has been running annual courses to help KM practitioners learn and update their skills and understanding, as well as connect with a global KM network – awesome!

The only challenge is timezones – its predominantly EU based so 11pm and midnight starts. Thankfully they record the sessions as well utilise loads of tools to ensure participants get the best out of the schedule.

The focus in previous years has been:

    • 2022 – Advanced Methodologies
    • 2023 – The New Collaboration
    • 2024 – Leveraging the Value Creation of Tacit Knowledge

This year the overarching topic is Knowledge Creation and Innovation. Week 1 was last week so there is definitely still time to join if you are looking at understanding KM and its impact on organisations as well all the tools and skills you might need as a KM practitioner.

    View the course registration details.

I will try and capture my thoughts and triggers after each weeks session.

  • Words, don’t come easy…

or, don’t copy and paste if you don’t know!

Golly gosh you see some interesting wordsmithing when you work around content. Not everyone can smack that iron into shape. But, when you copy and paste, you really should understand what you are trying to say, especially when you are trying to explain it to one of your DEI groups.

Screenshots from where I googled Materiality

My friend, who I bow down to in the wordsmithing game, tells me I should be more worried about the word “cachet” 😉

Ok, enough with the screenshots – have a great weekend!

  • Most excellent playlist(s)

I’m a child… of the 80s but partied in the 90s and 00s as well.Back in the day, I listened to new music on 3RRR and 3PBS (FM radio stations in Melbourne) and then used the iTunes to find music I’d not heard before. I could find some awesome out there tracks and occassionally predict a Top 40 hit.

Yeah I’m old, I recognise that. I took great pleasure yesterday in having an hour long car ride. I listed to the Purple Rain soundtrack by Prince & the Revolution. It’s just over 40 years since that album was released (26 July). And I’d heard it the first time around!

And this is where I share my Instagram post about picking up a vinyl picture disc copy of the soundtrack at the airport in LA.

Anyway, the point is… What is the point?

Ah yes, I have 2 points:

    1. I’m listening to a Spotify playlist of 12″ classics – tracks in the 80s and 90s that had special extended versions of 7″ singles made so that the record companies could make more money from their artists – yes this is the draft version (or V1) of sampling and remixes.
    2. Share music (Start a jam) with one of your colleagues, friends, kids. (the jam combines the music from both (or more) playlists and is a great way to be exposed to new music, stuff you might not normally hear/listen to.

Guess I better curate a playlist! I’ll try to remember to update fortnightly.

    My Curated Playlist

    And the bonus track

this amazing track that was originally on Tiktok but you know copyright stuff so it’s on YouTube. All hail November Ultra. Oh wait she is on Spotify too

  • snippets – what I’m listening to

I’m catching up on a couple of episodes of “Game Show” on ABC Classic FM. This program is hosted by Meena Shamaly who is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and performance poet. Meena shares iconic soundtracks and orchestral scores from digital gaming. I’m listening to the episode from 19 April where Meena explores the work of actor and musician Troy Baker. I love the work Troy has done on The Last of Us but also have a friend who worked on Stray Gods so I love his input into that game as the character Apollo.

    https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/game-show/game-show-the-music-of-games-featuring-troy-baker/103678336

I’ve not played the Batman games, an oversight perhaps, but have played Bioshock and Uncharted so Troy’s work on those games are also familiar to me.

Troy Baker's iconic characters - Joel, Joker,

Tip for you – if the program is no longer available to play, most of the tracks have a YouTube and Spotify link.

maybe I’ll blog more if I just blog snippets?

So, for today, but actually what I thought about yesterday.

I had a very multicultural day yesterday – saw a Japanese guy playing African ‘maracas’ begging for money in the Melbourne CBD, had a very diverse international student group in my KM guest lecture then watched a really amazing Spanish movie on SBS set in the 1920s, based on Snow White, and it was a silent movie. – Very dark and so good. Highly recommended.

  • One Foot Forward

Signed up for One Foot Forward which a free virtual walking event in October. The challenge is to walk 40km in support of the 1 in 5 Australians who experience a mental illness every year and helping fund crucial mental health research and support services at Black Dog Institute.

Have shared some links for donations at work and on Facebook, the bit I dislike the most! I would suck at sales as I find it hard to close the deal LOL. If you want to donate, here’s the link https://www.onefootforward.org.au/fundraisers/lynmurnane/

Anyway, 40km works out to be just over a kilometre a day so I have no doubt we can do this.

Off to do some bird watching on Day 1 so will definitely get some steps up then. And its daylight savings so afternoon walks are also on.

Here’s a pic from last weekend’s local Sunday walk.
